I began my art education at Bournville Art College, (University of Central England) in 1997, completing a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design, before moving on to achieve a BA Honours degree in Fine Art at Coventry University, UK. Subsequently, in 2001, I decided to take a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and spent the next 5 happy years working as an art teacher in a Secondary school in Birmingham, England.

Before relocating to Hong Kong, and more recently to Canada, I spent 2 years living, working and successfully exhibiting as an artist in Brussels, Belgium. Born and bred in the busy city of Birmingham, its no surprise that travel very quickly became an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Curiously, I have explored tranquil costal locations of which inevitably I have found great artistic inspirations from. However, it always seems to be the dazzling bright lights and vibrant colours of the city that primarily captivates my greatest creativity.

The inspiration for my art lies in my continuous venture to capture and relive the charm, magic and colour of the places that I have visited and the people I have met.

Portraits are a predominant part of my work. I have always been fascinated by the human face and form and the expressions and mannerisms that brand each individual an ‘individual’.

The success of a portrait painting goes far beyond merely capturing a faithful likeness. I strive to convey the physical and spiritual characteristics of each person I paint, into the most telling image possible. My fascination lies in that exclusive characteristic displayed in the stare of a persons face, making them so unique.

The artistic goal in my portraiture work is to emulate that unguarded moment, the expressive glance, a soulful stare, that signature quirky gaze, in the form of a painting to recreate something special.

The liberating process of applying paint to a canvas always creates a unique opportunity to modify and expand on what I have captured through a photograph.

Photography is an imperative part of my artistic adventure. I am passionate about photography in its own right, however it is through the lens of a camera where my painting begins. For me, my photographs are my sketches and it is from here that I take the next step; the most important step of all- to recapture my vision in the form of a painting.

My collection is a blend of both painting and photography with various subject matters, ranging from landscape to still life to portraiture, exposing my creative attention throughout my travels, revealing a documentation of how I see our beautiful world.
